1. Information We Collect
MyRem collects several types of information to provide and improve our service:
- Location Data: We collect precise location data (GPS) and background location to trigger your reminders when you arrive at or leave specific locations.
- Financial Data: We store your transactions, budgets, and financial summaries locally on your device to help you track your spending.
- User Content: This includes the text of your reminders, tips you've saved, and store reviews you've written.
- Device Information: We may collect basic device info (model, OS version) to ensure app compatibility.
2. Specific Android Permissions
To provide its core functionality, MyRem requires the following specific Android permissions:
- ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION & ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Required to detect your current location for reminders.
- ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION: Critical for triggering reminders even when the app is not open on your screen.
- WAKE_LOCK: Ensures the app can briefly wake up to process a location arrival event and send a notification.
- RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows the app to restart its location monitoring services automatically after you restart your phone.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE: Used to reliably perform essential tasks (like location tracking) while the app is active.
3. How We Use Your Information
Your data is used strictly for the following purposes:
- To provide location-based reminder services.
- To generate financial insights and budget tracking.
- To notify you of nearby stores you've previously reviewed.
- To process background tasks and geofences efficiently.
4. Data Storage & Security
We prioritize the security of your data:
- Local Storage: Most of your sensitive data (finance, reminders) is stored locally on your device using encrypted and secure storage mechanisms (MMKV).
- Cloud Syncing: If you use our sync features, data is transmitted over secure HTTPS channels to our private API.
- Background Processing: We use background services to monitor location markers without compromising your privacy while the app is closed.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide you with our services and for legitimate and essential business purposes, such as maintaining the performance of the MyRem app, complying with our legal obligations, and resolving disputes. User-generated content (reminders, finance data) stored locally is retained until you delete it or uninstall the application.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under regulations like GDPR, CCPA, or LGPD, including:
- The right to access your data.
- The right to delete your data (available via app settings).
- The right to export your data (Export feature in Storage settings).
- The right to withdraw consent for location tracking at any time via system settings.
7. Children's Privacy
MyRem is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we take steps to remove such information and terminate the child's account.
8. Third-Party Services
MyRem communicates with our backend API (myrem-api.mdidi.org) to facilitate advanced features. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this Privacy Policy. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
